The magnificent Versailles Palace is located in a suburb to Paris. The castle was the official residence of French Kings from 1682 to 1790.

The Versailles Palace was a hunting lodge under the reign of Louis XIII. When his successor Louis XIV (The Sun King) took over the throne, the castle undertook great modifications and improvements. The Sun King Louis eventually moved the entire French government to Versailles.

Opening hours and transportation

It takes about half an hour by train from Paris (Gare St. Lazarre Station) to get to Versailles.

The palace is open from Tuesday-Sunday, except from French holidays.

  • May-September 9 Am - 4 PM
  • October-April: 9 AM - 5.30 PM
