Louvre Museum

Louvre was in earlier times the castle to several French kings in Paris, and is one of the most important buildings in the city. Louvre Museum has today one of the largest and most impressive art collections in the world.

The the most ancient Louvre was initially built in the 12th century and has since then been expanded several times. The castle became a public museum in 1793, and Louvre Museum can today display it's visitors mid-evil, antique and more recent sculptures, paintings and artcrafts. The museum has also oriental and classical antiquities found at the great scientific excavations of the French government.

The new entrance of the Louvre Museum was ready in 1989, and is now well known for the large glass pyramid - Louvre Pyramid - in the front.

In the Louvre you can experience among numerous art treasures famous artcrafts like Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci and the ancient Greek statue Venus de Milo.
